The Caribbean Premier League abbreviated CPL or CPLT20 officially began in 2013 which replaced the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier Twenty20 competition of the Caribbean. This annual competition is primarily sponsored by Hero MotoCorp and is officially titled the Hero CPL. The inaugural tournament was won by the Jamaica Tallawahs who defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.
It has been 4yrs since the inaugural CPLT20 tournament and 2017 is no different with six (6) Caribbean teams entering this year’s tournament. Team not only comprise of Caribbean players but those of an international stardom within the Cricket arena. Commentators and supporters a like see the emergence of CPLT20 as a way to drum up support for the sports which many believe is on the verge of dying since West Indies Cricket is not seen as one of the heavy weight within the international cricketing arena. The view is that over the years support for test matches have dwindled especially for those tours which have been organized within the region against other test playing nations, and a rise in ODI’s, One Day International Matches, Limited over and Twenty20.
